Living an Inspired Life

What does it mean to live an inspired life? In his book, Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life, Dr. Wayne Dyer tells us that living an inspired life means choosing to live a life in which you strive to be “in spirit” or in alignment with a force greater than yourself. Some call it God, others call it the Universe, Gaia, Mother Earth, Spirit, your higher self, the Tao. However you identify with it, living an inspired life means acknowledging that there is a greater force surrounding us and guiding us at all times. Living in alignment with this greater force means understanding that we have the power to invite this presence into our life and therefore, begin crafting a life that is full of infinite possibility.

When you accept and acknowledge that you come from an infinite source, then you understand that your life as you are experiencing it now is but one possible iteration in a series of possibilities. You are a spirit who has chosen to have a human experience. Your human experience is particular to you. Your life and the way it plays out day to day, is a collection of the possibilities that you have allowed yourself to consider and experience. You understand, on some level, that there are other ways to live this life because everyone that surrounds you does it a little differently. We run into trouble when we see ourselves as victims of circumstance, as powerless; and resign ourselves to our “lot in life”. This is when feelings of fear, anxiety, panic, control, over-focus, comparison, anger and frustration enter our minds and cause us to re-affirm and re-create the very situations we are trying to remove ourselves from. So, how do we extricate ourselves from this low vibrational way of thinking and living? We take the opportunity to tap into a higher power and ask for guidance.

You are not here, on this earthly journey, alone. You are a child of God. You are an extension of his spirit. God is infinite and limitless. When you choose to live in alignment, “in spirit”, with God, you choose to tap into that energy and you open yourself up to all that God can make possible for you. So how do you do this?

Practices like journalling, meditation, prayer, being in nature, being in stillness allow you to tap into your inner wisdom and your higher self. They allow you to receive guidance and to cultivate a connection to something greater than yourself. They allow you to rise above the noise of the world and re-member (literally put back together) all that has been scattered within your human experience. Collectively, in the past two years, we are being called to “re-member”; both personally and as a whole. We have experienced the tension and trauma that result when fear and division are allowed to run rampant and we, instead, are being called to collect all of the pieces and re-member them and ourselves with love.

How do you do this? How do you tap into love and out of fear? How do you move into peace and out of tension? You choose again. You always have the power to choose again. One of my favourite practices for this is to stop and acknowledge all that I currently have in my life that I am deeply grateful for. This simple tool allows me to shift into a different energy; the energy of abundance. In doing this, I am like a radio changing my frequency and my “station” to that of a higher vibration. Shifting into the frequency of abundance allows me to call more of what I want into my life.

Try this practice today: Find a quiet moment and write down three things you are most grateful for in this life. Don’t just list them, really take the time to reflect on how different your life would be if these three things were not present. Take a moment to feel gratitude for the gifts the Universe has bestowed upon you. Feel the shift in your body when you connect with the energy of gratitude. This practice is always available to you and it can shift your frequency whenever you are in need of a re-tune.

When you think about your life and the things that bring you the most tension, consider tapping into the infinite source that is always available to you. Acknowledge that you may have a limited perspective and invite the presence of a greater possibility. Surrender the situation to a higher power and ask them to show you the next right step. Gabrielle Bernstein has a simple prayer that I love: “I surrender this now and trust that I am being guided.” Know that as soon as you do this, guidance will be made available. Be open to receiving that guidance and keep an eye out for how it will manifest in your life. Let go, trust.

This is the way to co-create with God. It is acknowledging that your limited perspective will be greatly enhanced if you allow the source of all things to guide and direct you to your highest good. Hold the vision for all that is possible. Trust that you are always being guided, supported, and re-directed, even when it doesn’t feel that way. Know that you can call on guidance any time you need it and it will always be granted to you. Acknowledge all the ways in which your life is already blessed and never forget:

You are a child of God, because of this, everything is possible. YOU are limitless.
